2009 Food Independence Recipe Contest

CRITERIA: Creative, original, inventive recipes that feature Virginia produce and other Virginia food products

DEADLINE: 12 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2009

In honor of Independence Day, SaveOurFood.org is celebrating Virginia’s food independence for the month of July by holding its third recipe contest.

Let’s celebrate that nation’s independence by also recognizing the country’s food independence and sharing recipes that use fresh Virginia ingredients. We have the freedom to purchase and consume safe, fresh, locally grown food products, and the summer is the perfect time to cook with fresh, local food products. PRIZES:

First place: SaveOurFood.org prize pack featuring a bamboo cutting board

Second place: SaveOurFood.org re-usable shopping bag

There also will be first and second runners-up.

All winning recipes will be featured on SaveOurFood.org.

RULES/GUIDLEINES:

-List the number of servings, as well as all ingredients used at the top of the recipe. Separate the Virginia products used from the other ingredients. Use as many Virginia products as possible. Include all measurements (e.g. 1 cup, 1 tablespoon, 1 teaspoon).

-Recipes will be judged by a Richmond-area chef, based on the contest focus, as well as ease of use. The more local foods used the better.

-Prizes will be mailed to winners upon conclusion of the contest. Prizes will be awarded to the first- and second-place winners only.

-The first-place recipe will be featured on our local recipe page for the entire month following the contest. The second-place recipe and the first and second runners-up recipes will be posted for the second, third and fourth weeks of the month, respectively.

-This is a contest solely and completely sponsored by SaveOurFood.org and the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation. All questions and comments can be directed to socialmedia@saveourfood.org.
