Food co-op puts friendly face on food shopping

Harrisonburg's Friendly City Food Co-op wants people to know where their food comes from.
"You know your doctor and your dentist, and possibly your family's attorney and veterinarian, but do you know your farmer and where your food comes from?"
That was the question posed on a brochure about the co-ops' 3rd Annual February Fest.
The event showcased local foods, but the first two were held to raise awareness of the co-op's mission and goals, said Tony Lopez, one of the founding members.
February Fest is just one way the co-op's organizers are trying to promote local food and farming. They want to encourage community involvement and membership in what will soon be a local owned cooperative grocery store. ...
